The middle-aged people begin to realize that aging affects them, but they do nothing about it. Sometimes they give the impression that they are waiting for problems to arise, which is also a serious mistake.
The aim of this article is to examine the issue of dietary supplements. In other words, it refers to the supplements that can truly fight antiageing and keep you young although you advance in age.
Beta-carotene
Beta-carotene belongs to the carotenoid family. It is a pigment found in plants with orange pulp. Carrots, apricots, peaches, cantaloupes, mangos, pumpkins and sweet potatoes contain it in good amounts. Beta carotene is also found in most green vegetables, the orange pigment being masked by the green pigment chlorophyll.
Beta-carotene has two main roles in the body. Firstly, it can be converted to vitamin A according to the needs of the body. However, it is unlikely ever to produce too much of this vitamin. Taking it in supplement form eliminates the risk of developing hypervitaminosis A.
This substance also acts as a powerful antioxidant. It helps to neutralize free radicals, which are a major cause of premature aging and cause the degeneration of several tissues of the body. You can take up to 50,000 IU of beta carotene per day.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is another antioxidant. It is required in significant quantities to neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals. Given the many sources of pollution and their relationship with free radicals, vitamin E is needed in much greater quantities than officially recommended.
It is estimated that the body takes a dozen international units of vitamin E per day. This estimation is based on the fact that some foods contain vitamin E but do not cover the needs of the body. Thus, Vitamin E supplementation is essential.
A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine showed that men and women taking a daily supplement of vitamin E are exposed to a 30% lower risk of being affected by respiratory and cardiovascular disease. The recommended dosage is 400 IU per day.
